   I’ve often wondered about this product and the obvious reference to movie Soylent Green. I finally gave it a try in this tub format (Formula v1.9), and was pleasantly surprised. Soylent may not be people, but two scoops are a well-balanced, 400 calorie meal. Soylent’s Cacao meal replacement powder is one of the better tasting and textured mixes on the market. At full strength, it has a rich chocolatey/soy-milk flavor and is thick and creamy even in water. I find it similar to old-school Slim-Fast powder with less grit. When mixed in a glass with a spoon or fork, there are still some chunks and parts of the mix that clings to the sides. When used in a blender or in a shaker (esp. with an agitator), it mixes thoroughly. The mild flavor encourages the inclusion of other protein powders, fruits, yogurt or peanut butter — if that is your thing. Super health-conscious users may balk at the amount of sugar and fat included, but it intended to be a well rounded meal, not targeted nutrition. It tastes even creamier in dairy, and my daughter says it tastes like chocolate milk. My main issues are the cost per serving and the portion size vs what you get in a container. The single serve package purchased direct from the company site can actually be the better deal. At full-portion size, you get only about 12 servings per container. With a single scoop, you can stretch it out to 24. But then you just don’t get as much nutrition unless you add your own ingredients, which kind of defeats the streamlined, meal-on-the-go purpose of Soylent. I’m also leery of too much soy consumption given recent studies, so would not want this more than once a day, AT MOST. There are also questionable ingredients like maltodextrin, xanthan gum, and others that I’d rather not consume. Otherwise, this is a quality, fair tasting, soy-based meal replacement powder mix.    It arrived today 6/20/24 and I opened the seal. but haven’t even consume it yet. Something telling me to check the bottom of the container and it said best by 5/6/24.It passed a month already. I’m quite upset since I bought this Soylent due to wisdom tooth extraction that happened today. I have no other liquid “food” to eat.

   Total garbage. Shame on me for not checking ingredients list! Ingredients: #2: vegetable oil! #3 maltulose! Also contains modified food starch, soluble CORN fiber, artificial flavors, sucralose! No wonder they don’t include an ingredients pic with the marketing pics … $35 straight to the trash.

   Overall I’m happy with the stuff. It has very little flavor and tastes more like chalk than cocoa. It’s also extremely finely ground and SUPER hydrophobic, so mixing it requires a blender. I was able put milk AND chocolate syrup on top of it without it sinking it’s so hydrophobic. I also use whole milk because I need the calories, and it tastes better. The milk blends better overall since 2 scoops in 24oz comes out with similar viscosity as a protein supplement. Anyway it does what I need it to and it works well enough.

   I decided to try powdered Soylent because the ready-to-drink (RTD) versions have become quite expensive, except for one flavor at a time. I wanted to mix up my options to avoid getting bored, so I gave the Cacao powder a shot as an alternative to the Chocolate and Mint Chocolate RTD Soylent. It’s not as sweet, but it still tastes great.

   I’m glad I did my research beforehand because my first experience was excellent. There were no lumps, and it didn’t taste chalky. I used a portable blender to mix it, poured it into a glass bottle with a metal lid, and stored it in the fridge for the next day. While it’s not as convenient as twisting off a cap, it wasn’t much more effort than making a bowl of cereal. In my limited experience, it’s been as filling as the RTD when using two scoops.

Given that my intended use case was to add it to my hurricane supplies for this season, this is significantly less useful than it would have been if it had the more typical one year or so of its shelf life remaining. As-shipped, I’ll be using it for breakfast on in-office days instead. The flavor is fine, though there is a distinct aftertaste of disappointment.

   La idea es buena, un alimento en polvo que puedes convertir en una especie de malteada. Tiene buen sabor, algo simple pero exactamente como lo esperaba, no muy dulce, no mucho sabor de ningun tipo. El problema es que a $1755 por solo 18 malteadas (1/2 cup) da aproximadamente $100 pesos por malteada.

   Si tomas en cuenta que cada malteada te da 10% de los requerimentos nutricionales diarios, puedes ver como no sirve como un reemplazo de comida.

   Obviamente estas cuentas ya las habia hecho antes de comprar, igual lo compre porque tenia curiosidad de probarlo desde hace algunos anos.

    This powder is flavorless so you can blend it with your milk of choice or fruits and it’ll take on that flavor. Even in a shakable blender bottle the powder mixes evenly, leaving no clumps. For someone who spends 12 hours a day at work, 5 days a week, this is a great way to keep up with your nutrition without running off to the nearby Wendy’s and eating something unhealthy on a daily basis. The price is not bad for what you are getting, although if you need more than 400 calories per meal I can see it getting expensive. Update: My previous review was from 2017, it’s now 2024. Once again I fell off the healthy wagon and I’ve been eating too many instant ramen for Lunch. The formula doesn’t taste any different than it did back then. It’s mellow and creamy, and it blends well with anything else you want to add. I like to blend it with my favorite instant coffee and oat milk for a rich and caffeinated enjoyable experience. You can put it in a blender, or just use a blender bottle and shake for a bit. If you want chocolate, just add your favorite chocolate syrup. The sky is the limit with the original flavor powder. It does come with a measuring scoop but I didn’t find it until 3 servings in lol. I like that it doesn’t taste artificial like most other protein powders. Still a great product all these years later.

It can be hard for me to remember to eat enough when I get busy or when my fiance is at work, and this has helped me tremendously. I drink a shake daily mixed with any kind of oat milk and sometimes pb2 which is super tasty. The flavor is way better than I expected and it makes it so much easier for me to get in the nutrients I need throughout the day.     Price is atrocious, but the product itself is nice. Comes in a large plastic container and has a scoop, which is a plus. Tastes just like a regular protein shake, but made with soy products so it’s good for those with a milk allergy. Good flavor, gross texture. You’d need to double (or triple) the serving to actually feel like you’ve eaten. Basically, one serving is like a snack, so not really a “meal replacement”. Good for stay at home moms that don’t get to eat because kids are crazy and can help you lose weight if you use this to replace one or two meals out of the day.

    I have had Soylent on and off for a long time, generally bottled, and wanted to try the tub and see how it compares. When i opened the package, not only was the box it shipped in ripped open entirely, but the seal inside the tub had line of pinholes that were big enough for powder to come through. Which you can see inside the lid. I try not to be a stickler about stuff, but when, either through manufacturing or otherwise, the only seal protecting something that is designed to be eaten is broken.. Seems likely it’s a manufacturing problem, given how the holes line up and such, but I’m not taking a chance. One other person seems to encountered this problem months ago, and Soylent claimed they corrected it. Evidently this isn’t the case. It also doesn’t feel worth it to save a few bucks. I’ll try Huel instead.

    Oh my god, where do i begin. I suffer from chronic nausea and eating problems. Most food makes me sick, and i cant afford what i need for nutrition. Ive had the bottled soylent before, and those are good, but i actually like this better! It fills me up and is satiating like real food. I feel full after eating it. It tastes great, like a mild bread sweet thing. Mixed with a little kool aid or fruit flavoring like mio it tastes amazing, like a fruit poptart. Tropical punch kool aid makes a strawberry poptart flavor! I feel a lot healthier since i added this to my diet as well. I know im getting nutrients I wasn’t in my junk food diet. I just dump a scoop in tap water and mix. Its clumpy at first, a blender or mixing thing would be good but personally i dont mind. Ive been eating it every day for over a week now. It replaces like half my meals currently. love this stuff and will totally be keeping it around for good. Totally vouch for the usefulness of this for meal replacement (im not aware of any that have this many nutrients) and also for people like me who have trouble getting food in and keeping it down, or if you have to eat but dont want to/appetite issues. This is a better Ensure.

    I’m not too picky on powder anything; As long as, this product is doing what it’s meant for. I’m satisfied, and I get what the comment section was saying about the chalky taste.. It doss taste a bit chalky, and the other comment about not having a scooper; Mine did come with a scoop cup, it was just buried within/under. I just needed to consume half of the product but it’s there in the container.. There’s no measurement labelled, so I’ll stick with the scooper I had for protein shakes.
