   I’ve been working towards a more plant based diet so I decided to try out this vegan protein powder. I really enjoyed the balanced flavor without making my shake taste chalky. I added some oat milk along with mixed berries, and I felt the fullness of a good meal that allowed me to feel a boost of energy.

   I have been using biosteel vegan protein for quite some time, and always opt for the chocolate option (which I love). I have typically found the taste of vanilla flavored proteins not great in the past, but thought I would give biosteel a try! The protein itself mixes well, however the taste is not great. I would compare the taste to most other vanilla flavored powders. I have been mixing it in smoothies to use it up and try to mask the flavor, but the taste is prominent.

   First when I removed the outer seal and opened the lid – I noticed little holes on that protective seal. It was in a straight line and looked like it happened during production – like some machine was “off”. I would not have even noticed but there was some powder in the cap that highlighted the straight line of holes in the seal. Whatever there. When I get a new powdered product I always like to try it plain even though I never drink protein powders like that – I always use them as just a part of my smoothie. With this product I was surprised at how much I did not like it plain. It was actually very bitter to me. Not something I would ever, ever drink alone tasting like that. But once I added fruit and handfuls of kale – it tasted fine – almost like any other smoothie. I have tried other products from this brand and have always liked them. That was why I was surprised at how much I did not like the taste of this product. Again, if you are like me – it is perfectly fine as part of your smoothie.    The powder is very fine and wasn’t hard to mix. I recently stopped eating meat and needed protein in my diet. It truly like vanilla and doesn’t have a chalky or bad after taste. It taste good plain or you can add fruit. I added peanut butter, almond milk and a frozen banana to my shake. I like it either way!

   I noticed that another reviewer essentially had the same experience as I. The shrink wrap protective seal on the outside of the container was sealed well but, after taking it of and barely making a turn of the lid to remove it, I saw my pants to have a mess on them. When I got the lid off, I just flicked up on the edge of the paper seal on the top and it was already unsealed around almost halfway.
   I only tried it because of the top seal being on so well that it was impossible to pull the lid without destroying it. I’m not impressed by it though. Also, they advertise as a number one seller and unless they sell under other brand names, I’m not familiar with them and I don’t see anything said about their manufacturing or testing for quality processes.
   All I can say is that it does taste good but, it seems they have an issue with their safety deals and can’t recommend it until I know they resolved what seems to be an issue.

   As far as the taste, it is similar to all the powders I’ve tried. Now the consistency is different from the others. Personally, I make a big cup of really hot tea (with plenty of room in the cup left) then add the collagen while the tea is pretty hot. This will allow the powder to mix better as it does not mix with cold water (hot works best). I then take a knife and vigorously stir until it dissolves. It takes times to fully dissolves. (it’s hard to mix). I have try several brand. “hard to mix” seems a common problem?!

   Love the taste and how easily it mixes. But the container is massive compared to what is inside and I’d prefer it to come in different packaging. Seems wasteful.

   For a vegan protein powder, it’s quite tasty. I mix this in a smoothie with fruit post-workout. My only criticism is the high salt/sodium content. If it wasn’t for that, I would buy this regularly.

   I’ve tried a lot of different protein powders that are plant-based and this is our favourite yet. A lot of essential nutrients and amino acids. It is also one of the few powders backed by NSF certified sport which gives me the peace of mind about the ingredients.

    I enjoy trying a few different kinds of protein powders, primarily because I’m on a plant-based diet and need the protein. One friend at work always turned up her nose and preferred whey protein powders over anything with pea in it. The main thing was the fact that the grittiness turned her off. On the other hand, I prefer the pea proteins as did another coworker. This blend or organic proteins, however, seems to be much less gritty than pea protein alone. There are several different sources of plant-based protein in the Biosteel. I’m not a smoothie person, but rather enjoy my protein powder in yogurt. If desired, I will add a bit of flavoring to it to make it more enjoyable. The powder mixes readily with no clumping, which makes me think if this were added to a smoothie, it would mix equally well. There wasn’t enough grittiness to make this a total turnoff for me. What I really like is the fact that there’s a full 25 grams of protein in a single scoop. What I’m not getting in my food, I can easily get from the Biosteel. The use of the Stevia makes it more diabetic-friendly, but I’m not sure about the natural flavors. Some people object to them, while I’m a fence sitter. I’ve included the ingredients below so one can take a closer look. I was very satisfied with the taste as well as the fact that I’m getting a decent protein boost. INGREDIENTS: Organic Brown Rice Protein, Pea Protein, Natural Flavors, Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein, Pea Starch, Celtic Sea Salt, Xanthan Gum, Sea Salt, Stevia Leaf Extract

    This comes in a big white plastic tub with a safety seal under the twist off lid. It has a heat shrink seal around the lid as well. My safety seal under the cap wasn’t sealed, but the heat shrink seal was in tact. It is about half filled but they fill it by weight and not volume so there was a lot of settling. It comes with a measuring cup. The protein powder is very fine and fluffs into the air at every move. I mixed this with coffee and a little creamer. It has a nice vanilla flavor, not too sweet, but it does have a powdery texture even when dissolving into hot coffee. Its grittier when mixed into cold coffee. I’m used to drinking the pre mixed protein drinks and in comparison, this wasn’t too bad. I like that it won’t take up as much space in the cupboard as the pre mixed stuff.

    For those of you that are unaware, which I was, this product can’t be returned. However I was able to get a refund from bestproteinpowder4women.net.
    I use BioSteel products specifically the electrolytes and like that product.
    However when I was looking for a protein powder I looked to BioSteel because of the quality of their electrolytes but I didn’t expect the protein powder to have Celtic Sea Salt and Sea Salt in it. I bought it for my husband who does not use salt. There is nothing in the description that says it contains sea salt and it is only when you look at the ingredients label do you see it.

    Besides the moral/ethical reasons to use plant proteins (vegetarian/vegan lifestyle/philosophies), there are health considerations. Plant based proteins powders usually have no cholesterol and little/no saturated/trans fats. That’s an important aspect for anyone looking to limiting these aspects. This protein mix follows that nutritional concern. There is zero cholesterol and only 2 gram of fat (1g saturated fat) in a 33g serving. That fat probably coming from the pumpkin seed component. The serving size is one scoop, which is 33 grams. Yes, it is a somewhat sizable scoop. In that serving, you get 23 grams of protein. This is a decent quantity, although other plant proteins provide a protein to serving ratio better than 2:3. The product displays badges and notices that it is Vegan, No artificial flavors or coloring, Non-GMO, Gluten-free, Soy-free and a prominent badge for NSF Certified Sport. Badges/certifications for GMP, FDA are missing, which in these days is a conspicuous omission, at least for me. The container only provides 25 servings. My opinion, on supplements, is to provide servings/doses in multiples of months. So, a month supply is a minimum, unless it’s just a sampler to tease/attract new customers. Attached are photos to show real world images, with close-ups of pertinent information from the label. I mixed this in hot almond, cashew milk, and it dissolved well. The vanilla taste was decent, not too sweet with no aftertaste. This actually made for a nice hot protein drink on a cold wintery day. Based on the above considerations, this vegan plant protein mix earns a 4 – 4.25 star rating, with a moderately high recommendation.
